Bobby’s Burger Palace shut down with little fanfare

A Burlington burger restaurant that was the brainchild of Food Network chef Bobby Flay has closed its doors. Bobby’s Burger Palace in the Burlington Mall was one of more than a dozen such restaurants around the country, but its windows are now papered-over and the restaurant is closed for good, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.

The restaurant’s final day was on December 28, Burlington Cable Access Television reported, and it had been in business for nearly four years, having opened in January 2013. Flay created the Burger Palace chain as a way to showcase his favorite food at a moderate price, according to the restaurant’s website. The restaurant served a wide range of burgers with different toppings, plus salads, sides, shakes, and more. With the Burlington spot closed, the closest Bobby’s Burger Palace location is at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

Eater has reached out for more details on the closure and will post any updates when they are available.

The Real Deal is really gone

A local trio of restaurants has shut down its location in Cleveland Circle near Boston College. Brighton’s The Real Deal is no more, but two other locations of the restaurant in West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain remain open, as Boston Magazine reports.

In a post on Facebook, the restaurant announced that the lease had run out at 1936 Beacon St. and that efforts would now be concentrated on the two other locations, both of which will honor any gift cards customers had purchased in Brighton. The announcement from the restaurant also hinted that there will be exciting news coming from The Real Deal in 2017.

The Real Deal was known for serving “monster burgers” with plenty of toppings, along with wraps, salads, pizza, sandwiches, and seasonal specials. It closed in Brighton on December 29. Its former next door neighbor, Boloco, closed down last May after 18 years in business, and a nearby Appleblee’s was demolished in March to make way for a new mixed-use development.

Last call for slices in Kendall on December 30

A longtime Cambridge pizzeria is closing its doors and shifting its focus on a newly opened location in the South End. Emma’s Pizza owner Jeffrey Weingast announced that the Cambridge restaurant would close on December 30, as Boston Restaurant Talk reported.

Weingast will direct his attention towards developing the newer Emma’s Pizza at 537A Columbus Ave. in the South End, which opened in August. Emma’s has been a Cambridge staple since it first opened in 1962. It relocated to the 40 Hampshire St. spot in 2000, and Weingast has owned the restaurant since 2004, as previously reported.

It’s had a long run in a handful of locations

A storied restaurant will close down after a lengthy history operating in various locations north of Boston. Bishop’s Legacy Restaurant will say its final farewells this week before closing for good on December 24, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.

Bishop’s Legacy opened in Lowell in March of 2015 after a 14-year absence from the restaurant world, as previously reported. The original spot, Bishop’s, opened in Lawrence in 1949, while another location in the Merrimack Valley operated from 1968 to 2001, as the Lowell Sun noted. Last week, the 143 Merrimack St. restaurant shared the news of the impending closure on Facebook, letting patrons know that this is the final week of service.

The post read, in part:

All of us at Bishop’s Legacy Restaurant would like to thank our many guests as well as the City of Lowell for their support over the past two years. We opened in Lowell offering a casual atmosphere and affordable menu, utilizing our family’s original recipes and famous formula for fresh French fried potatoes.

It then went on to indicate that family dynamics had changed, and the restaurant would close, effective December 24. Bishop’s Legacy served Lebanese cuisine, including items like tabouli, falafel, and baba ganoush, among assorted soups, salads, and both seafood and meat entrees.

The new spot will debut in Allston around March or April of 2017, Deng told Eater.
