Peek Inside the New Hopsters in the Seaport District and Brew Some Beer

For those who wish to trek through today’s weather conditions, Newton-based Hopsters is laughing at the snow and celebrating the official opening of its new Seaport District facility (51 Sleeper St., Boston) — a bar, restaurant, and brew-your-own-beer spot — today, January 4. The new place includes 2,000 square feet of brewing space and 4,000 square feet for dining and drinking.

While Hopsters’ Newton location serves a menu that focuses on flatbreads and charcuterie, the new location pays homage to founder Lee Cooper’s British roots, adding pub-style dishes like fish and chips, sausage and onions, and steak and ale pie to the menu. (And there are still flatbreads and charcuterie, too.)

Those who want to brew can reserve up to 12 kettles at Hopsters, creating up to 36 cases of beer. The brewing session takes about two hours, and then the beers ferment over the next couple of weeks, during which the customers can design their own labels online. At the end of two weeks, they can return to pick up their new beers or get them delivered.

The Hopsters Seaport expansion is the beginning of Cooper’s plan to expand to 16 locations over the next six years, so stay tuned for details on future locations. (Hopsters also already has a local beer and liquor shop inside the Boston Public Market (100 Hanover St., Downtown Boston) called Hopsters Alley.)

While Hopsters Seaport will typically be open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, the doors are opening at 4 p.m. today thanks to the storm.
