Everything you need to know about watching the Olympics at restaurants and bars in Greater Boston

The opening ceremonies for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro kick off on Friday, August 5 at 7 p.m., and restaurants and bars in Boston are prepared to play host to guests who want to take in all the action over the course of the next few weeks.

Olympic events will be aired on televisions and projection screens, and some restaurants will be offering special cocktails, appetizers, and more in honor of the Games, drawing inspiration from both Brazilian cuisine and the athletes themselves.

Whether you're cheering for your favorite athlete, sport, or country, these restaurants and bars have you covered. Catch all the events, starting with the pre-opening ceremony women's soccer games, from August 3 through August 21.

Bukowski Tavern

In addition to screening each day's Olympic events on HD televisions in its Inman Square location, Bukowski's will offer two specials inspired by the host country, Brazil. Chef Brian Poe created a feijoada burger made of ground bacon and pork and topped with a Brazilian stew made of black beans, pork, andouille sausage, and braised Russian kale for $14. On the beverage side, there will be a mango caipirinha made with Avuá Prata Cachaça from Rio de Janiero and lavender simple syrup for $14.

With more than 60 HD televisions on hand, Cask 'n Flagon will air Olympic events every day throughout the Games in Rio de Janeiro, offering its regular menu and lineup of cocktails, beer, and more.

Located at the Boston Marriott Copley Place, Champions is equipped with 36 televisions to showcase Olympic events every day, as well as a 23-foot video wall that is ideal for airing major Olympic events. The restaurant will have multiple channels showing different events over the course of the Games and can direct the audio for specific events to different parts of the restaurant.

Chopps Grill

For some suburban Olympics viewing, Chopps American Bar and Grill is offering live streaming of the Rio Games each day through August 21 and will offer food and beverage specials during the events in which the 11 Olympians from Massachusetts will compete.

The Emerald Lounge at the Revere Hotel is hosting a free watch party for the opening ceremonies on August 5 at 7 p.m. and will feature a lineup of specialty cocktails for the duration of the Rio Olympics. The cocktails are each $13 and include the “Swim Faster Phelps,” made with Bully Boy vodka, triple sec, lime, simple and cherry syrups, mint, and blueberry Red Bull; the “Aye Que RIO!” with Sauza tequila, St. Germain, lime, simple syrup, raspberry, and cucumber; and more.

Lincoln Tavern will air the Olympic Games each day on six televisions around the restaurant and plans to showcase the must-watch events using three large projectors. It will also offer a special cocktail in honor of Michael Phelps' comeback, which will be called the "Butterfly Effect" and will be available for the duration of the Games for $10. The beverage is made with Don Julio blanco, lime, agave, orange juice, muddled watermelon, and fresno chile (adding an extra "kick," pun intended).

Parlor Sports

Parlor Sports makes no secret of its love for soccer fans and will be sure to crank the sound for the American men and women as they battle it out in Rio. The restaurant and bar also welcomes guests for the opening ceremony, and if you're lucky, the bartenders may plan something special like they did for the winter Games, with their own torch lighting ceremony. Chances are, any event you're into, Parlor can get it on one of its screens and may be able to accommodate sound-on requests if the draw is big enough. Current plans are to keep regular business hours, subject to adjustment for any major US team appearances. Oh, and Parlor has "fantastic A/C," according to general manager James Peters.

Precinct Kitchen + Bar inside the Loews Boston Hotel will air the Olympics on televisions inside the bar area and on the outdoor patios. The restaurant will offer its own version of a Brazilian caipirinha with an added hint of Boston: "The Boston Tea Party Caipirinha" will be made with cachaca, simple syrup, chilled green tea, and limes, and it will be available from August 5-21 for $13.
