Updating The Eater Boston Heatmap, September 2013

View as Map

More often than not, tipsters, readers, friends and family of Eater have one question: Where should I eat right freaking now? Restaurant obsessives want to know what's new, what's hot, where to get the latest late-night slices or dinner with a view? And while the Eater 38 is a crucial resource covering old standbys and neighborhood essentials across the city, it is not a chronicle of the 'it' places of the moment. Thus, we offer the Eater Heatmap, which will change continually to always highlight where the crowds are flocking to at the moment.

445 Somerville Avenue
Somerville, MA 02143
Area Four has spawned an adorable pizza-centric Somerville outpost in the former space of the short-lived Bearded Pig in Union Square. The menu is divided into "pizza" and "not pizza," there are Hoodsies and lemon ice for dessert, and a video game emulator running on two televisions lets diners play all their childhood favorites. Starting at 11pm each night, half-priced cold slices are available. [Photo: Melissa Ostrow/UrbanDaddy]

2. Bronwyn

Reasons why Bronwyn is such a huge deal are many and include the fact that this is the second venture by Tim and Bronwyn Wiechmann of T.W. Food. Also, Bronwyn serves the underrepresented cuisines of Central and Eastern Europe. Also, there's a foie gras knish. After opening earlier this summer, the Union Square restaurant's popularity is showing no signs of waning, and it just picked up two solids reviews in recent weeks from Devra First at the Globe and MC Slim JB, newly writing for The Improper Bostonian. Dinner is available Tuesday through Saturday as a three-, five-, or seven-course meal. [Image: Official Site]

Pretend this is a clever pun about a bar made of ice landing on this month's Heatmap. The team behind Boston Duck Tours just opened this 21-degree Fahrenheit bar at tourist-heavy Faneuil Hall, and the interior sure looks cool. (Sorry.) A $19 admission fee gets you 45 minutes in the frosty oasis, wearing a borrowed cape and gloves. Drinks (which cost extra) are served in glasses made of ice. [Photo: Chris Coe]

6. Society on High

99 High Street
Boston, MA 02111
The sleepy nighttime scene in the Financial District could get shaken up by this newcomer from Ian Just, owner of Les Zygomates and Sorriso. The bar already draws a happy hour crowd, but dinner items like the pan-seared scallops and the bone-in pork chop are secret hits. [Photo: Society on High/Facebook]
