Where to Order Takeout Cocktails Around Boston This Summer

Massachusetts is temporarily allowing cocktails with to-go orders while the pandemic state of emergency is in effect, and restaurants are quickly jumping onboard

Months after many other states took action to temporarily allow the sale of cocktails with takeout orders, Massachusetts has finally come around, despite the bill stalling in the Senate for over a month. (Beer and wine sales with takeout orders have already been allowed for several months now.)

Now, customers can order up to two cocktails per entree (no more than a total volume of 64 liquid ounces) with takeout orders. Restaurants and bars must provide the cocktails in some kind of sealed container, and the alcohol-to-mixer volume must be equal to what it would be for on-premises consumption.

The new legislation took effect on July 20, and many local restaurants are quickly getting their takeout cocktail selections up and running; see details on a sampling of Boston-area venues below that are either already offering takeout cocktails or will be adding them to the menu within the next few days.

Please note that a number of Boston restaurants have resumed dine-in service, and the level of service offered is indicated on each map point. However, this should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: For updated information on coronavirus cases in the area, please visit the Massachusetts coronavirus website.

Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines.
