The whimsical idea of one food taking on the form of another has picked up steam in the Boston area with the spread of sushi burritos. A handful of restaurants now carry the banner for these seaweed-wrapped treats, filling them with traditional fish options used for sushi and poke — and even teriyaki chicken.

These 12 spots will all satisfy any sushi burrito craving: Some offer full burrito-sized roll-ups, others offer smaller versions, and still more have bowl versions and other entrees available as well. (Where sushi burritos go, poke bowls tend to follow.) Like most fast-casual restaurants these days, Basho Express offers its main dishes in the form of wraps (in this case, seaweed wraps) or bowls. There is a lineup of pre-set sushi burritos featuring everything from salmon sashimi and shrimp tempura to crispy tofu and bulgogi beef. Sushi burritos can also be customized with a variety of fillings, sauces, and seasonings. Located on Boston University's campus, Basho Express is open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Poké-City opened on Mass. Ave. in January 2017 and started doling out rice, salad, and zucchini noodle bowls along with poke burritos. While there is a list of "signature bowls," Poke City puts a strong emphasis on customization. Guests can choose their base, pick a protein, round it out with mix-ins like bean sprouts or mango, select a sauce, and top it all off with some crunch or garnish.

Situated close to OGinger, Pokéworks (part of a small chain) takes its name to heart: The burritos here are filled with fish done in the style of poke, or Hawaiian raw fish salad.
