Harvard Square Coffee Shops With Free Wifi
Welcome to the first in a series of neighborhood guides answering an essential question: Where can I drink good coffee and get free wifi?
1. Darwin's Ltd.
With three locations around Cambridge, including this one just outside of Harvard Square, guests can access free wifi, and there are plenty of outlets. There's no minimum purchase required to use the wifi, but you should probably buy a tasty sandwich, soup, or pastry. Particularly interested in breakfast sandwiches? Those are available from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on weekdays and until 3 p.m. on weekends.
On the beverage side, there are a variety of coffee and tea drinks, hot chocolate, apple cider (when in season), juice, and soda.
Hours: 6:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday
Stop by the original Tealuxe for a pot of tea and a bit of free wifi (if you can find a seat) — but you might not want to stay long, as there's no bathroom. In addition to the giant tea selection — which includes bubbles teas, frozen teas, tea-infused hot chocolate, hot apple "chaider," and more — there are also some pastries. Plus, there's tons of packaged tea and tea-related products for sale.
Hours: 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday; 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
3. Boston Tea Stop
Cambridge, MA 02138
Bubble tea, available cold or hot, is the highlight here, and there's also mochi ice cream. There's free wifi and board games that are free to play, but there's no bathroom. Cash only (and there's no ATM inside).
Hours: 12:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily.
4. Dado Tea
In addition to coffee and tea drinks, including bubble teas, Dado offers a variety of light meals — salads, wraps, rice bowls, and more. There's an extensive selection of vegetarian options. Wifi is free for paying customers.
Hours: 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
5. Algiers Coffee House
This cozy, pretty two-story coffee house is suitable for a drink (pick your poison: caffeine or alcohol), a snack, or a full meal. Breakfast is served all day, and there are sandwiches, burgers, falafel, and lots more for lunch and dinner. There's a range of hot coffee-based drinks, iced drinks, pots of tea, Italian sodas, and beer and wine. The wifi is free, there is a bathroom, and seating is generally plentiful.
Hours: 8 a.m. - midnight daily.
You know what Starbucks is. This one has two floors and free wifi. It gets crowded, but you can usually wrangle a seat.
Hours: 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily.
7. Au Bon Pain
It's big, it's open early and late, and there's a lot of seating, including a nice patio. Located right in the heart of Harvard Square, this location of Au Bon Pain offers free wifi and the chain's standard selection of baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and snacks, along with coffee and other beverages.
Hours: 5:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday; 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday; 6 a.m. to midnight Sunday.
8. Peet's Coffee & Tea
Located in Cambridge's Winthrop Park, this is a particularly bustling location of Peet's, a national chain. There's free wifi and a bathroom for customers (find the key next to the cashier.) While the wifi can be slow at times, the company is currently upgrading the wifi in all stores.
The beverage selection is extensive and includes lots of coffee, espresso, and tea-based drinks, from lattes to blended drinks called "Javivas." For food, there's oatmeal and some baked goods.
Hours: 6 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 6 a.m - 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 6:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday.
For when you need free wifi and a Belgian waffle, there is Zinneken's. The waffle menu includes various combinations of toppings like Nutella, whipped cream, bananas, strawberries, and more. The waffles themselves come in two styles — Liege (soft and chewy) and Brussels (light and crispy). The music is kept fairly quiet, so it's a good study spot.
Beverages include coffee, espresso, tea, and hot chocolate. All coffee drinks can be made iced and/or decaf as well.
Hours: 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. - midnight Friday and Saturday; 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday.
