It’s the stickiest time of the year in Somerville’s Union Square, birthplace of Marshmallow Fluff. The annual Fluff Festival went virtual last year due to the pandemic, but it’s back with various in-person activities for 2021 — spread over five days, September 22 through 26, instead of the usual giant, messy, Fluffy extravaganza in one day in the heart of Union Square.

In addition to games, music, merch sales, and other Fluff-related events — see the full calendar here — there’s food, of course. Here’s what you’ll find at participating businesses in and around the neighborhood celebrating the 16th annual Fluff Festival, operating under the 2021 tagline “Onward & Fluffward!” (Individual vendor hours vary, and specials may sell out or change without notice, so check with a restaurant directly if you have your heart set on a particular dish.)

Health experts consider dining out to be a high-risk activity for the unvaccinated; the latest data about the delta variant indicates that it may pose a low-to-moderate risk for the vaccinated, especially in areas with substantial transmission. The latest CDC guidance is here; find a COVID-19 vaccination site here.
