The temperature has dropped considerably, so chances are you need a little extra help in the morning to get going. Whether you start your winter day with a piping hot cup of joe or an iced coffee (this is Boston, after all), these coffee shops in Dorchester have what you need.

Please note that a number of Boston restaurants have resumed dine-in service, and the level of service offered is indicated on each map point. However, this should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: For updated information on coronavirus cases in the area, please visit the Massachusetts coronavirus website.

Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines.

Ba Le Restaurant

While Ba Le is one of the best spots in Dot for banh mi sandwiches, don’t sleep on the restaurant and market’s coffee counter, either. Order a Vietnamese iced coffee, which is sweet and creamy thanks to the addition of sweetened condensed milk. You might as well grab a banh mi while you’re there, as well as treats like dried mango and sticky rice. Try the coffee smoothie, too.

Ba Le is open for takeout and delivery via Grubhub and Uber Eats.

The Daily

The Daily Market is a go-to neighborhood spot for all your grocery needs. It also slings exceptional coffee drinks. The coffee shop portion of the Daily Market is set up by the cash registers. Its glass display case contains goodies like ham and cheese croissants and generous slabs of carrot cake, and you should definitely grab a bite to eat while you’re there. Order a cappuccino too, or chug a cold brew in the morning to supercharge your workday. Other options include espresso, tea, and a chai latte that packs a punch of spice.

The coffee shop at the Daily Market is open for takeout only.

Honeycomb Cafe

Owners Lara and Nicole Miele make their coffee with beans sourced from Union Coffee Roaster in Ayer, MA. Order a latte (soy and almond milk are each available), and pair it with Honeycomb’s breakfast sandwich, which consists of a fried egg and cheddar served on a bagel or toast. Honeycomb specializes in espresso drinks — chocolatey mochas, piping hot Americanos, and straight-up shots.

Honeycomb is open for takeout via phone, as well as takeout and delivery via ChowNow.

Chill on Park

Sometimes you just need a cup of coffee. Other times, you just need a scoop of ice cream. For a combination of the two, head to Chill on Park. The crown jewel of this Fields Corner coffee and sweets shop is the so-called “affogato,” which is a scoop of ice cream drizzled with espresso. Try it with a scoop of chocolate peanut butter ice cream — the bold espresso rounds out the sweet and nutty flavors of the ice cream. The java here is roasted locally by Karma Coffee in nearby Sudbury, MA.

Chill on Park is open for takeout and delivery via Grubhub.

Mud House

Tucked in Neponset near the bridge to Quincy, Mud House serves up the kind of no-frills coffee necessary for a quick morning jolt. The cafe opens at 6 a.m., so it’s perfect for all you early birds. A quick heads up to candy lovers: Along with seasonal flavors and classics like hazelnut and French vanilla, Mud House’s coffee offerings include toffee caramel, white chocolate chip, and Twix.

Mud House is open for takeout only.

Ripple Cafe

A former pop-up, Ripple Cafe put down roots in Ashmont in 2019, where it’s been pouring cups of coffee and dishing out good vibes ever since. Head into the hip spot to savor some hot or iced coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches, and avocado toast.

Ripple is open for takeout and delivery via its website, and delivery via Doordash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats.

American Provisions

Where else can you grab a cold brew, some chimichurri beef skewers, and a bacon jam and arugula tartlet at the same time? This gourmet specialty store, which opened in 2019 (joining its older sibling in Southie), serves coffee alongside pantry essentials, snacks, and other goodies. For those who like to brew their coffee at home, the store stocks beans from independent roasters, including Cambridge-based Broadsheet Coffee Roasters.

American Provisions is open for takeout. Orders can be placed ahead of time on the shop’s website.

Sweet Life also does the simple things well — the drip coffee and café au lait are exemplary, and perfect for dunking cookies. For those who like their coffee with a kick, Sweet Life also offers Irish coffee, which consists of cold brew, Irish whiskey, a touch of Guinness, Bailey’s, and cinnamon, and is served cold or hot.

Sweet Life is open for indoor dining (limited seating) and takeout by calling the restaurant directly.
