Spoke Wine Bar

Spoke’s patio might be small, but that doesn’t keep it from being one of the best places in Somerville to experience knockout food and wine pairings. While chef John DaSilva turns out some of the city’s most exciting seasonal dishes, Liz Mann’s food-friendly wine list means it’s hard to find a bottle that won’t make your taste buds sing. Put it all together, and it’s proof that simple is delicious.

To write a patio-oriented list and leave Oleana out is to invite the supreme judgment of an al-fresco-dining community. Arrive before opening to guarantee a spot or sip a sangria while you wait for your table in the back garden of the Eastern Mediterranean-inspired favorite. Once you’re settled into your lush digs, order from an extensive list of wines from around the world, all organized with a nod to chef Ana Sortun’s spice-driven menu. The wine-and-beer-only liquor license means creative wine-based cocktails abound, too.View Oleana's wine list.

Branch Line

What goes best with rotisserie chicken and bocce courts? Branch Line suggests you explore the geeky Mediterranean spirit with a bottle of Corsican wine or a lesser-known Greek white from the section of their wine list titled “Island Wines.” Not in a maritime state of mind? No problem. Choose a bottle of Cru Beaujolais from from “Rotisserie Whites & Reds.” When in doubt, go bubbly — they’ve got you covered with a deep selection of French sparklers to keep you on your game. Eastern Standard

Eastern Standard’s cocktail program gets a lot of love, but those in the know head to the Kenmore mainstay for award-winning wine director Colleen Hein’s heavy-hitting, unapologetically studious list. Dive in for obscure global selections, find back-vintage bottles for short money, and don’t miss out on the Monday Night Cellar, when a fresh list of marked-down selections is offered with the industry in mind. SELECT Oyster Bar

Ball like a true Back Bay Brahmin with a bottle of Burgundy and a shellfish “Plateau” on Select’s intimate back patio. Chef Michael Serpa’s concise-but-complete roundup of from-the-sea favorites make it a connoisseur’s dream, and the power-hitter wine list (Mikulski! Rousseau!) meets a bar just as high.View Select's wine list.

Taberna de Haro

A more extensive Spanish wine list does not exist in Boston, and one could argue that chef/owner Deborah Hansen’s love letter to the Iberian rivals that of any other stateside. Cult favorites and old school producers fill the pages (and pages) of Hansen’s lovingly written list, spanning the peninsula from Rioja to Galicia to Andalusia and back again. The patio is wide and airy, and if Hansen’s working she’ll happily steer you toward a rarified sherry herself.View Taberna de Haro's wine list.

Get your sake on poolside this summer. (Yes, we're sneaking a sake entry into this map.) Boasting one of the city’s deepest, geekiest by-the-glass sake selections from certified sake sommelier Alyssa DiPasquale, it’s a kitsch-covered shrine to the stuff. Get to know your Junmai from your Ginjo, or bring friends and indulge in 1.8 liters of fermented rice goodness from their “Big Boys” section.View Hojoko's sake list.

B&G Oysters

The beloved South End seafood haven does double summer duty with a charming, secluded patio and a wine list compiled by one of Boston’s heavyweight wine minds. Cat Silirie’s deep selection of grower Champagnes, Austrian rarities, and cheap-and-cheerful Muscadet is compiled with bivalves in mind but goes just as well with a pile of hand-cut fries and afternoon gossip.View more information on B&G Oysters' wine program.
