A more extensive Spanish wine list does not exist in Boston, and one could argue that chef/owner Deborah Hansen’s love letter to the Iberian rivals that of any other stateside. Cult favorites and old school producers fill the pages (and pages) of Hansen’s lovingly written list, spanning the peninsula from Rioja to Galicia to Andalusia and back again. Looking at its wine list, you’d never guess at Barcelona’s corporate identity. That’s thanks to Gretchen Thomas, Barcelona’s thoughtful wine and spirits director. With an eye toward the traditional, she develops approachable-yet-interesting tours of mostly Spanish classics, featuring dozens of wines by the glass and a deep sherry selection.
