This two-year-old Medford bagel shop lets you build your own breakfast sandwich on a bagel — choose from various meats, spreads, and other classic bagel toppings. Also worth noting: The rosemary and salt bagel is the shop’s unofficial signature flavor. Get some Boston Chai Party chai to drink on the side.

The shop is currently open only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, takeout only, accepting online preorders throughout the week. (Walkups can sometimes be accommodated; keep an eye on Instagram for announcements about extra bagel availability.)

This peaceful spot in Somerville offers a bunch of sandwiches, including egg and egg-free options. On the egg side of things, there's a black pepper biscuit sandwich with scrambled egg, cheddar, and optional bacon, and an egg and feta sandwich with tomato and arugula on a brioche roll.

This former pop-up has mastered the bagel sandwich in all its forms: with eggs, with meats, with cheese, and with frequent specials. The Eggspañola comes with chunks of feta cheese, a medium egg, pimenton aioli, and parsley gremolata, and an added avocado pushes it over the edge. It’s served with a choice of bagel and great with an iced coffee in the summer (or whenever). For something a little meatier, there's a hot smoked salmon bagel sandwich with onion and fresh dill.

Little sibling to Oleana and Sarma, Sofra serves up a fun breakfast menu. Of particular note is the haloumi egg sandwich with feta butter (and optional bacon). Sugar-craving weekend visitors can follow up with pastries such as the tahini brown butter doughnut.

With two locations in Cambridge, 1369 Coffee House offers the same menu at each. It has a few options for breakfast sandwiches, all of which are available on bagels (from Better Bagels), croissants, or sliced bread. The “spicy” sandwich packs a bit of heat, with jalapenos and chipotle aioli atop eggs with cheese. There’s another version that features arugula and pickled onions.

For a quick breakfast, local vegetarian mini-chain Clover offers a popover sandwich, and it comes with a choice of an egg or roasted tempeh. Also inside: cheddar, tomatoes, fried leeks, and a bit of vegan mayo. It pairs exceptionally well with one of Clover's hot coffees or teas. Clover also serves a few other breakfast sandwiches, including a “sausage,” egg, and cheese on a pita, using the Impossible Burger meat substitute.

Fluffy eggs on an even fluffier bun are the hallmark of the breakfast sandwich from Flour, and depending on the day's preference, diners can get bacon or ham on the sandwich, along with cheddar, arugula, tomato, and dijonnaise. A relative newcomer to downtown Boston, Tradesman has a nice lineup of breakfast sandwiches, including one served on a cheddar and chive biscuit with bacon, cheese, spinach, and a fried egg. (But save room for one of the over-the-top croissants, which come in flavors like birthday cake and red velvet.)

See if the self-described “Boston’s best homemade bagels from scratch” live up to their description by stopping into this local chain for a tequila sunrise. No, not the drink, but a delightful bagel sandwich that comes with bacon, egg, diablo cream cheese, and pico de gallo. There's a vegan version as well. A new-ish addition to the original Blackbird Doughnuts storefront on Tremont Street, Sally’s Sandwiches offers its breakfast sandwich all day. Served on a bulkie roll, it includes American cheese and a scrambled egg, with the optional additions of bacon, turkey, avocado, and/or mojo pork.

Those seeking Scottish cuisine on the weekends can head to JP and enjoy the Haven's breakfast sandwich: a spread of fried egg, Lorne-style sausage, tattie (potato) scone, Cotswold cheese, and pickle sauce on brioche.
