Dinner gets so much love, but how about breakfast and brunch? Whether you’re looking to dive into stacks of pancakes or shrimp and grits with a beermosa on the side, Boston’s largest neighborhood of Dorchester has lots to offer when it comes to the first meal of the day. Here are eight favorite spots to kickstart a delicious day.

Please note that a number of Boston-area restaurants have resumed dine-in service, and the level of service offered is indicated on each map point. However, this should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: For updated information on coronavirus cases in the area, please visit the Massachusetts coronavirus website.

Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines.

On the first and third Sundays of the month, diners can treat themselves to the brunch-meets-barbecue fare from Dorchester Brewing Company’s resident restaurant. The recently launched brunch menu delights with sausage gravy to soak up with buttermilk biscuits, along with mini egg muffins with bacon, cheese, and scallions, and classic buttered grits with shrimp. Book one of the beer flights, with “beermosas” and more, made with DBCo’s brews.

M&M BBQ, located within Dorchester Brewing Company, is open for indoor and outdoor dining. Takeout orders may be placed online and via telephone.

Tucked right by the Savin Hill T stop, this coffee shop owned by Dorchester couple Lara and Nicole Miele offers bold cups of coffee and bites to grab on morning commutes, like a classic breakfast sandwich with fried egg. Check out the Pop, Lox & Drop It sandwich, too, which features your choice of bagel (the multi-seed is the best) topped with scallion and dill cream cheese, cucumber, tomato, and slivers of smoked salmon.

Honeycomb is open for takeout via phone, as well as takeout and delivery via ChowNow.

Favorite Dot spot Dbar beckons with an art-filled, heated, covered patio and two new solariums, plus a comforting weekend brunch. Dishes dance from the decadent — the monster sticky bun with optional vanilla ice cream (go head and spring for it) — to the standard brunch bites of huevos rancheros and eggs served with home fries, toast, and bacon or avocado. Plus, the passion fruit cosmo is enough of a reason to roll out of bed on a lazy Sunday.

Dbar is open for indoor and outdoor seating. Takeout is offered via telephone, with delivery offered through Grubhub.

Zia Gianna

Consider this bright spot as your chance to sample brunch by way of Messina — the Sicilian city that chef and owner Nino Barbalace calls home. The evocatively named eggs in purgatory features eggs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and pesto cooked in a cast iron skillet.

“In Naples this dish is called “ova ‘mpriatorio” because the white of the eggs in the middle of the red of the tomato sauce reminds people of images of souls engulfed in flames,” Barbalace says. His latest offering is a meatball and frittata version of the traditional Sicilian dish called “sciusceddu,” which features eggs, parmesan, ricotta, meatballs, and sage.

Zia Gianna is open for indoor dining and takeout by calling the restaurant.
