Spoke Wine Bar

The cozy Spoke Wine Bar is focused on seasonal eats and — you guessed it — wine. The small plates are meant to be shared (expect things like butter bean dip, fluke, and skirt steak), and the wine list is long and will satisfy drinkers of any disposition.

Dave's Fresh Pasta

Go to this retail shop and deli for the fresh pasta, stay for the exquisite sandwiches. Compulsory are the Cubano and the prosciutto and fig.

Mike's Food & Spirits

The menu at neighborhood standby Mike’s is a mile long, but go for the Roman-style flatbread pizza with barbecue chicken. Wash it down with a beer the size of your head.

Redbones Barbecue

Redbones may be a barbecue joint, but the best thing on the menu is the fried chicken and waffles. Get those, and get one of 29 beers on the enviable draft list. The neighborhood staple has been around for over 30 years.

It’s not the original location — that’s in Medford — but that’s okay. These burritos are among the most-loved in town for a reason.

Dragon Pizza

Dragon Pizza is the new kid on the Davis Square block. Even so, the pizzas it’s slinging are too delicious to ignore. You can go traditional and get the pepperoni, or you can mix it up and get the kung pao chicken. There are also kabobs, salads, and more, and the menu’s always changing; keep an eye on Instagram for specials.

Out of the Blue

The fried scallops at Out of the Blue are as good as you’ll find outside of the seafood shacks dotting Massachusetts’ North and South shores. And like at a seafood shack, they’re served with onion rings, tartar sauce, and coleslaw.

If you go to Rosebud and don’t order pie, did you really go to Rosebud? The key lime is the order. Eat it after drinking something from the superb cocktail list. A mint julep, perhaps?

For those who crave Thai street noodles (who doesn’t crave Thai street noodles?), Dakzen is hard to beat. The pad see ew and pad khee mao are essential, and don’t miss the fiery tom yum noodle soup.

Posto is more than a pizza parlor, but Posto’s pizza is an absolute dream. These Neapolitan pies are as close to the real thing as exists in Boston. Get something seasonal, but get the margherita, too.
