Boston’s Top Spots For Delicious Passover Food

From ceremonial seder to full vegetarian menus, and everything in between

From gefilte fish to matzo-based sweets, with a full vegetarian menu thrown into the mix, the Boston area has a lot to offer for the Passover holiday, which runs from April 5 through April 13. The following spots raise the bar for Passover-friendly meals and treats. Please note that most of the options below do not strictly adhere to Passover’s special dietary rules.

Blacker’s Bakeshop

The Newton bakery specializes in Jewish treats like lots of variations of babka, challah, and more. Its regular menu is available until April 2 (the bakery is closed from April 3 through April 13). Check out the bakery’s online menu for pre-orders ahead of the holiday. (543 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton)

Clover Food Lab

Vegetarian mecca Clover Food Lab has joined forces with rabbi Barry Dolinger of Congregation Beth Sholom to create a springtime spread of dishes perfect for one big seder or many smaller meals throughout a week. The menu includes the multi-course Passover box (for 2 to 10 people), with a matzo “flutternutter” kit, assortment of appetizers like romesco dip and meatless chopped liver, and entrees like Brussels sprout casserole, potato cheddar soup, bitter endive, hazelnut and honey salad, mushroom matzo pâté, kale-cabbage mashed potatoes with onion gravy, tomato soup, salad with turmeric dressing, and butternut squash kugel. For dessert, the box includes flourless chocolate cake and apple mousse. A separate seder plate and a la carte dishes like matzos and chopped liver are also available.

EH Chocolatier

This year’s Passover selection at EH Chocolatier includes dark chocolate bark with bits of crispy matzo; dark chocolate hazelnut bark; chocolate dipped candied fruit; and more. The local chocolate shop ships and also offers curbside pickup. Order online. (145 Huron Avenue, Cambridge)

Inna’s Kitchen Culinaria

Charoset, matzo balls and mock chopped liver made with eggplant are just a few of the highlights on Inna’s passover menu, which is open for orders through March 27, In addition, much of the menu will be available during Passover from April 10 to 11. Mamaleh’s Delicatessan

The Passover menu at this Cambridge-born mini-chain includes ceremonial seder items, Passover deli favorites like chopped liver, home seder options like gefilte fish, matzo ball soup, and brisket, and more. Pick-up is available in Brookline or Cambridge from April 4 to April 6 starting at 10 a.m. For suburban pick-up, visit the website for the available days. Order online.

Michael’s Deli

This fan-favorite New York-style deli has a Passover menu offering brisket, cocktail latkes, stuffed cabbage, matzo ball soup, chopped liver, sweet potato tzimmes, “kosher for passover” beef knishes, and more for pickup or delivery (free for orders of $125 or more) to Brookline, Needham, Newton, and Wellesley. Rosie’s Bakery

Rosie’s no longer has its own storefront, but its products live on at several locations around the Boston area. Rosie’s is offering a few Passover items for online ordering — chocolate caramel matzo crunch, chocolate coconut macaroons, flourless chocolate delirium cake, brownies, and chocolate-dipped almond macaroons. Zaftigs

Zaftigs is offering an a la carte menu for pickup between April 4 to 6; and orders are due by Wednesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. The menu includes options like a seder plate, charoset, gefilte fish, beef brisket, and lots more.
