Karen Akunowicz — chef and owner of Fox & the Knife, James Beard award winner, and Top Chef alum — is following up her acclaimed South Boston restaurant with another. Bar Volpe, featuring Southern Italian cuisine, will reportedly open at a yet-to-be-announced address, also in South Boston, by fall 2021.
While Fox & the Knife, which made Eater’s 2019 list of best new restaurants, is an ode to the meaty Emiliana-Romagna region of Northern Italy where Akunowicz studied pasta-making, Bar Volpe will focus on the south, from Rome downward, the chef told Food & Wine. That means more seafood, more vegetables, and pastas such as orecchiette and stuffed Sardinian culurgiones. There will also be a wood-fire grill.
The restaurant will also include a glass-encased pasta shop. (During the pandemic, Fox & the Knife expanded its business to include fresh pasta and accoutrements for customers to cook at home; some items are also now shipping nationwide via Goldbelly.)
Follow along on Instagram, @bar.volpe, as the new restaurant approaches a possible fall 2021 opening.
