Tiger Sugar — a Taiwanese chain that the internet loves thanks to its photogenic brown sugar boba tea — is making the next step in its Boston takeover, which was first announced back in January 2020. It’ll be opening a storefront at 14 Tyler St. in Chinatown on May 22 at 11 a.m. A couple months ago, Tiger Sugar made its first foray into Boston with the opening of its Allston shop at 181 Harvard St. The international chain, which was founded in 2017, has made headway into several other United States cities as well, including New York and Los Angeles.
Tiger Sugar’s best-known drink combines brown sugar syrup with milk and slow-cooked tapioca pearls, with the syrup leaving tiger-like stripes up the sides of the cup. The company also sells a popsicle version of the drink, which can be found at various Asian markets — it’s been spotted at Reliable Market in Somerville’s Union Square, for one — as well as black sugar popcorn, both of which will be available at the new location.
The first 100 customers on each day of opening weekend will get their hands on free Tiger Sugar merch. Keep an eye on Instagram for any updates on the new Chinatown location.
