The team behind Charlestown destination Brewer’s Fork opened another restaurant in Charlestown over the weekend, this time in the Navy Yard in the space formerly occupied by the Navy Yard Bistro. (Brewer’s Fork, which is known for its excellent wood-fired pizzas and craft beer offerings, is just down the street and around the corner, not far from the Bunker Hill Monument.)

The new restaurant, Dovetail, serves “American-style dishes using local, seasonal ingredients complemented by a wine program showcasing small production wines from around the world, as well as craft beer,” according to the team.

The menu includes dishes such as squash and burrata salad; fried Island Creek oysters; skate wing with cassoulet and carrot puree; pan-seared trout with long beans and a black garlic emulsion; and a variety of pasta options. The head chef is Amanda Lowry (formerly of the Butcher Shop), the sous chef is Stephen Chandler, and the general manager is Jess Gooch.

In addition to a full-service restaurant, Dovetail also operates a takeout sandwich shop that is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., serving sandwiches such as a classic BLT; a vegetarian Cuban; porchetta; pastrami on rye; and plenty more. The Shop at Dovetail also offers soup, salads, and cookies, as well as beer and wine to go. Just show up to order, or call (617) 337-5230.

When the Brewer’s Fork team began planning the new space in summer 2019, they never could have expected the many roadblocks they’d run into when the pandemic broke out.

“We have been down a long, hard road of delays and doubts as to whether or not this project would happen, but ultimately decided it was worth giving it everything we have for the neighborhood,” the team told Eater via email. “We are dedicated to making this work and will do everything we can to survive the winter.”

The restaurant is currently open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with plans to add Monday hours, as well as lunch and brunch hours, at some point in the future.
