A popular South End restaurant and bar will join a lineup of food vendors slated to open in a Watertown development next year. The Gallows — a member of the Gallows Group, which includes Blackbird Doughnuts, Banyan Bar & Refuge, and Sally’s Sandwiches — will open at Arsenal Yards, but it will be a hybrid version, with not just the Gallows’ stacked cocktail list and over-the-top burgers and poutine but also its own stock of Blackbird’s doughnuts. The restaurant group announced the planned expansion today.
The Gallows first opened in the South End in 2010, where it is a neighborhood staple known for its cocktails, craft beer, and comfort food. Classics from the original location will carry over into Watertown, including the aforementioned burgers and poutine as well as Scotch eggs. Similarly, some cocktails will make the move as well, with room remaining for some food and drink additions, including Blackbird Doughnuts. The new restaurant will span 4,000 square feet, with space for outdoor dining and private events.
”Arsenal Yards is the ideal next location for The Gallows and is perfectly timed for us to create a unique hybrid concept with Blackbird Donuts in the expansive space,” Elena Todisco, the managing director at the Gallows Group, said in today’s release.
Businesses at the Arsenal Yards development are expected to begin opening later this year, stretching into 2020 and 2021. A handful of out-of-towners have already signed on to join the lineup of food vendors there, including fast-casual burger chain Shake Shack, poke chain Pokéworks, California’s Tender Greens, New Haven’s legendary pizzeria Frank Pepe, and Japanese yakitori chain Tori Jiro. There will also be a Chipotle, as well as a City Works Eatery & Pour House, and Condesa Restaurante Mexicano, an import from Rhode Island.
Stay tuned for further details on an opening timeline for each of these vendors at Arsenal Yards.
