A beer- and food-filled section of Somerville will soon have a new tenant that’s no stranger to the Boston area: Carolicious opens Thursday, August 29 within Aeronaut Brewing Company’s Foods Hub (14 Tyler St.), serving arepas and other Venezuelan snacks starting at 5 p.m.
Appropriately named for founders Carolina Garcia and Carolina Salinas, Carolicious specializes in arepas served with various accompaniments like pulled pork, beef, veggies, and more. The arepas are gluten-free, and the restaurant within Aeronaut will also serve sweet versions of the dish, along with a handful of other offerings. For a full look at the Carolicious menu, see below.
In 2016, Garcia and Salinas began working with Nibble Kitchen (an arm of the Somerville Arts Council that aims to support immigrant entrepreneurs) to build up their business. Since then, they have run pop-ups in the area, including at Aeronaut, and have appeared at local farmers markets and festivals.
“As a pop-up food vendor here a few years back, the Carolinas became beloved members of the Aeronaut community,” Aeronaut co-founder and chief science officer Ronn Friedlander said in a release. “It’s been a shared goal to have Carolicious open a restaurant in our Foods Hub ever since. We are so excited to see this finally come to fruition.”
Carolicious will be a permanent presence in the Aeronaut Foods Hub, operating in conjunction with the brewery’s regular hours, with the exception of Sundays. Tasting Counter and Somerville Chocolate also share space in the hub. Full hours for Carolicious will be Mondays from 6 to 11 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., Fridays from 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and Sundays from 12 to 3 p.m.
