A Beacon Hill bar has closed, and after a brief hiatus, it reemerged on September 12 with a new name, updated menus, and a refreshed look. Boston’s 6B Lounge (6 Beacon St.), a member of the East Coast Tavern Group — which also runs Emmet’s Pub, Scholars, Carrie Nation, Sunset Cantina, and Magnolia Smokehouse — shut down in mid-August to undergo a redesign, according to Elizabeth Palmer, the group’s general manager. The bar has now reopened as Roxanne’s.
Moving away from 6B’s martini and wine bar focus, Roxanne’s is meant to lean into craft cocktails, serving some new creations from the bar staff mixed in with classic drinks. The bar also offers a selective wine list and rotating options of draft and bottled beer. Food at Roxanne’s bends toward bar staples with a touch of finesse — “approachable and not fussy,” as Palmer told Eater in an email in late August.
“The inspiration for the design came from some of my favorite cocktail bars in the Northeast, a mix of vintage pieces, a variety of textures and colors, and a fun atmosphere,” she said at the time. “I think we’ve created something really eclectic, interesting, and most importantly customer-oriented.”
When the restaurant announced plans for the revamp, longtime fans were concerned that 6B’s popular themed nights would go away, but that’s not the case — they will continue. Stay tuned for ’70s Thursdays, ’90s Fridays, and ’80s Saturdays.
This is not the first time in recent history that the East Coast Tavern Group has overhauled one of its restaurants — it also took over and revamped Sunset Cantina last year, bringing back the restaurant’s signature epic nachos and introducing a weekly tapped margarita.
Update, September 13, 2019: This piece has been updated throughout to indicate that Roxanne’s is now open. A few additional details have been added regarding theme nights.
