A shopping center in Dorchester marks the addition of two new restaurants this month. Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ (23 District Ave., Boston) is now in business, and 110 Grill opens on Thursday, July 25, in the South Bay complex.
This location of Gyu-Kaku has been in the works since the end of 2017, and its Dorchester restaurant joins regional locations in Brookline and Cambridge. The first Gyu-Kaku opened in California in 2001, and the chain now operates hundreds of locations around the world. Known for its shared Japanese barbecue format where customers cook their own meats on a central grill, Gyu-Kaku serves cuts of beef, chicken, and seafood, as well as salads, soups, noodles, rice dishes, and an assortment of appetizers. Additionally, there’s an all-you-can-eat menu chock full of grilled meats, cheese fondue, and dessert.
The Dorchester location also serves sake, draft beer, cocktails, wine, and hard liquor.
Across the complex sits 110 Grill (1 District Ave.), which is part of a fast-growing New England restaurant group that’s skirted the border of Boston proper for months, with 15 other locations in Massachusetts alone and more in New Hampshire and New York. This is 110 Grill’s first restaurant in Boston proper, and it spans 5,800 square feet with seating for 180.
Culinary director Elliot Williams left his mark on the restaurant’s menu, which includes dishes like chorizo totchos (tater tots topped with chorizo sausage and nacho cheese), Cajun-style yellowfin tuna, short rib flatbreads, and a kale Brussels sprout salad. Additional entrees include chicken piccata gnocchi and a Beyond burger that can be made vegan. There are lots of gluten-free options, too.
The cocktail menu at 110 Grill rotates with the seasons, and there is a lengthy wine list and selection of local craft beverages and mainstream beers. This location will be open for both lunch and dinner.
Gyu-Kaku and 110 Grill join several other restaurants in the same complex, including Wahlburgers, Chipotle, Starbucks, and J.P. Licks, and Dorchester Brewing Company is a short walk away.
