A long-running barbecue food truck and caterer in Boston will settle into a permanent home over the next few months. M & M BBQ — one of Boston’s best barbecue options — will join forces with Dorchester Brewing Company to open as a full restaurant within the brewery this fall.
M & M’s Geo Lambert took over the family food truck, then called M & M Ribs, about a decade ago; his grandparents, Marion and Maurice Hill, had founded the business back in 1982. Lambert has run M & M BBQ as a catering and pop-up operation in recent years, gaining acclaim for ribs and more, but didn’t plan to open a permanent restaurant.
M & M isn’t new to Dorchester Brewing Co. — it has popped up there before — but by fall, it will be a permanent fixture in the taproom. The brewery is working to expand its space to include a year-round rooftop area with a greenhouse-style glass enclosure, kitchen space for M & M, an arcade gaming area, and space for live performances.
Dorchester Brewing Co., which celebrates three years in business this month, has brought in pop-ups since its opening, also allowing customers to bring in their own food — a structure that’s worked for other area breweries like Lamplighter and Aeronaut. With M & M as the resident restaurant, however, this model will end, but customers will have access to M & M’s lineup of barbecue meats, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and a host of new items Lambert will prepare for the full-scale restaurant.
Dorchester Brewing CEO and co-founder Matt Malloy estimates that the brewery will be ready for M &M to have a grand opening in October.
