Local restaurant owner and chef Will Gilson and his team are planning a new restaurant in East Cambridge, per an announcement today. The heretofore unnamed space will feature a cafe, a full-service restaurant, and a cocktail bar with a rooftop terrace, and it will be situated at the heart of the forthcoming Cambridge Crossing development in East Cambridge.
Nearby, Gilson owns the popular Puritan & Co. restaurant in Cambridge’s Inman Square (and its delivery-only “ghost restaurant” sibling, Puritan Trading Co.). He and his team also operate the Gilson family’s Herb Lyceum farm and event space in Groton, and they recently debuted a six-month pop-up cafe on Western Avenue in Lower Allston, Café Beatrice, which is part of Harvard’s Zone 3 Project.
The new restaurant could open sometime in early 2020, and per today’s announcement, it will cater to a few different dining experiences. There will be an all-day cafe featuring baked good, sandwiches, and various other take-out options, for one, which sounds similar in feel to the aforementioned Café Beatrice pop-up.
The full-service restaurant portion will feature a menu comprised of entree-sized dishes and small plates, and it will have space for 60 diners, with an additional 20 seasonal patio seats. There will be a cocktail bar, too, serving locally sourced bar snacks and featuring a large rooftop terrace with park views.
“We are proud to introduce the first dining experience to Cambridge Crossing, which is designed to be not just a restaurant but rather a destination within a growing and inclusive community,” said Gilson in the press release. “We want to build a place that accommodates everyone from morning commuters grabbing a coffee, to residents and tenants in need of a quick bite, to friends enjoying a night out.”
Cambridge Crossing is a planned 43-acre, 4.5-million-square-foot development that will feature science and technology space, retail, dining options, and residential units. Public green space is also planned inside the development. Gilson’s new space will be inside a stand-alone building Cambridge Crossing is referring to as the Shed.
Stay tuned for more details as an opening date gets closer.
