Longfellows Cafe, known for providing inventive coffees, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches to the daytime crowd inside Cambridge’s Lamplighter Brewing Company, will cease operations on June 2, as owner Alisha Fowler prepares to relocate to New Jersey with her family. Though this marks the end of a partnership that began with the brewery’s opening in late 2016, it will not be the end of an in-house coffee program at Lamplighter: Brewery founders Cayla Marvil and AC Jones will launch Pepita Coffee in Longfellows’ place.
Fowler launched Longfellows with the opening of the brewery, initially intending to keep the operation small with just coffee, espresso, doughnuts, and waffles, she wrote in a farewell post on Instagram. Since then, Longfellows has expanded to include a larger staff, more pastry and food options, and a community of loyal customers.
In the next three weeks, Longfellows will host several farewell events, selling swag in its marketplace, offering off-menu specials, yoga in the taproom, and a final bagel Friday with Bagelsaurus. The full details of the farewell tour are available online.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without Longfellows’ electrifying cold brew and delicious sandos — we’re also incredibly grateful for their cheery and welcoming contributions to the taproom and local community,” the Lamplighter team wrote in a post.
There will be a brief hiatus following Longfellows’ closure on June 2, after which Lamplighter’s Pepita Coffee will open on June 10.
Pepita will serve espresso beverages along with a rotating selection of cold brews and coffee-beer crossovers. Full details on the menu will roll out in the coming weeks, but Pepita will also offer Austin, Texas-inspired breakfast tacos.
In the meantime, catch the final events at Longfellows over the next few weeks, and look out for more information on Pepita Coffee.
