The restaurant group behind Blackbird Doughnuts, Banyan Bar & Refuge, and the Gallows is adding a fourth brand to its collection, opening a sandwich shop in the South End. Sally’s Sandwiches will occupy a space in the South End inside the original location of Blackbird Doughnuts (492 Tremont St.).
The new shop is slated to open in late June and will be a takeout-only operation, per a job posting.
The restaurant group has no comment on Sally’s Sandwiches at the moment, Gallows Group founder Rebecca Roth Gullo told Eater, but the group promoted the job posting through its Blackbird Doughnuts Instagram story and set up an Instagram account for Sally’s.
The Gallows has been around for nearly a decade: It debuted in the South End in 2010, and the team added the first Blackbird Doughnuts location in early 2015, followed by Banyan later that year. Most recently, Blackbird Doughnuts expanded to Brighton in early 2019. The Brighton space accommodates production as well as retail — and when it opened, the team noted that the additional space would leave room at the original South End shop for some “fun stuff.” Now it seems that the “fun stuff” is sandwiches. Stay tuned for more information as Sally’s approaches an opening date.
