Tom English’s (957 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester) will close permanently on April 1 as the neighborhood prepares for a new development project to take its place.

In June 2017, news emerged that the buildings housing Tom English’s and the neighboring Dorchester Market were sold to a developer planning a new building on the sites. At the time, the developer planned to offer space to Dorchester Market in the new development, and there will reportedly be a restaurant space as well. The new five-story building will also accommodate residences.

Located near the JFK/UMass MBTA stop, the site of Tom English’s sits near the Banshee and Pantry Pizza & Kitchen. The bar is going the way of several other longtime Dorchester establishments that have closed in recent years, including the Cornerstone Pub and Centre Bar.

Stay tuned for details on a possible restaurant for the new development on the site of Tom English’s Bar.
