Los Amigos Taqueria extended its reach across the Charles River this week, opening a new location in Somerville’s Davis Square. The restaurant — the local chain’s fifth outpost — took over the former Blue Shirt Cafe space at 424 Highland Ave., quietly opening on Monday, February 4, per founder Dan Ustayev.
The first Los Amigos opened in West Roxbury in 2012; the other three locations are in Newtonville, Brookline, and Brighton. The Los Amigos menu includes burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and salad bowls, with customers choosing their fillings, which range from spicy chicken and steak to carnitas, plantains, shrimp, fish, and vegetables.
Los Amigos’ addition to the Davis Square neighborhood expands the area’s options for Mexican food, adding onto Anna’s Taqueria, the Painted Burro, and Tenoch.
The neighborhood has seen a great deal of change in recent years, with new restaurants like Oat Shop and Mortadella Head popping up along College Avenue and some shifts in the restaurants along Elm Street, including the addition of several poke and sushi restaurants like Pokéworks, Genki Ya, and O Ginger. New Thai favorite Dakzen — Eater Boston’s Fast-Casual Restaurant of the Year for 2018 — also opened recently, as did a cafe called Revival.
