Futago Udon (508-512 Park Dr.) is now open in the Audubon Circle area of Fenway, situated next door to Mei Mei. The restaurant specializes in house-made Japanese noodles served both hot and cold, and comes to Boston from the same people behind another restaurant in Somerville’s Davis Square.

Futago took over the space previously occupied by Jimmy John’s and made its debut Friday, February 22. Operators Minh Bui and Xue Zhen Cao are also part of the team behind Sugidama in Somerville, which focuses on Japanese soba noodles. Bui developed the menu for Futago, which includes wakame (seaweed) and sansai vegetable udon, as well as carbonara udon, sea urchin udon, and hot udon with beef and honeycomb tripe.

Futago will operate for lunch and dinner, opening Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 9:30 p.m.

Udon takes center stage at various other restaurants in the Boston area, including at Yume Ga Arukara in Cambridge’s Porter Square. Japanese chain Tsurutontan is also slated to open near Futago in Kenmore Square, and Love Art Udon operates nearby on Commonwealth Avenue near Boston University.
