Bar Mezzana Team to Grow South End Reach With Another Restaurant

A longtime South End restaurant will soon close its doors, but a local restaurant group has already stepped up to take over in its stead. Stephi’s on Tremont will shut down permanently this spring, leaving its 571 Tremont St. space to the team behind Bar Mezzana (360 Harrison Ave.) and Shore Leave/No Relation (both at 11 William E. Mullins Wy.).

Chef Colin Lynch, together with beverage director Ryan Lotz and partners Heather Lynch, Jefferson Macklin, and Ben Kaplan, will open an as-yet unnamed restaurant in the Stephi’s space, expanding the group’s reach within the South End neighborhood. As the project is in early stages, the group has shared neither the name of the forthcoming restaurant nor details on the food, but the goal is to open in the summer of 2019. As it did for Shore Leave, the team will work with Hacin + Associates for the design of this new restaurant, and Cafco Construction will oversee the build-out of the space.

The impeding closure of Stephi’s comes less than a year after its South Boston counterpart shuttered. Stephi’s has operated in the South End for approximately 10 years, and its sibling, the original location on Newbury Street, remains open. The restaurants are known to serve a selection of comfort food dishes, including fried chicken, steak frites, clam chowder, meatloaf, and weekend brunch, with a full bar.

Though an exact date for the Stephi’s closure is not known, last call for the restaurant will happen some time this spring. Stay tuned for further details on the closing date and the forthcoming restaurant from the Bar Mezzana team.
