A South Boston specialty food shop full of cheese, charcuterie, and sandwiches just added a counterpart in Dorchester. American Provisions (1961-1981 Dorchester Ave.) opened over the weekend, over two years after the new location was initially announced. A fire tore through the nearly completed space in mid-2017, delaying the opening.
The shop spans approximately 1,500 square feet, including a full kitchen. The walls are lined with selections of beer, wine, and more; and cases of cheese, meats, and sandwich provisions fill the rest of the space.
American Provisions also serves a selection of prepared foods and sandwiches, including the hot beef (with griddled roast beef, pepper jack, caramelized onion, and buttermilk ranch dressing), grilled cheese, and la campania (with mozzarella, tomato, pesto, and arugula). There are also salads and quinoa bowls, along with a soup of the day.
American Provisions is open in Dorchester Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
