Local burger chain Tasty Burger is planning to open another location, this time at 48 Winter St. in Boston’s Downtown Crossing. The restaurant is petitioning the city for the ability to serve beer and wine (like at its other locations) and close at 2 a.m., and the licensing board will meet on November 20 to consider the plan.
“We’re excited to become downtown’s neighborhood burger joint sometime this winter,” a rep for the restaurant group told Eater, noting that the expansion was in its early stages.
The proposed expansion would place the new Tasty Burger just a few blocks away from an outpost of national burger chain Shake Shack, which opened recently. That location of Shake Shack also features a liquor license and local beers on tap, but it closes its doors at 10 p.m. each night of the week. Tasty Burger’s proposed closing time of 2 a.m. may help it win the burger turf war — at least with the drunk late-night crowd. (Plus, Tasty Burger serves one of the city’s best fast-food-style burger options.)
Tasty Burger opened its first location on Boylston Street near Fenway Park in 2010. The mini-chain now boasts four locations — the others are in Back Bay, Harvard Square, and adjacent to TD Garden, though it did close locations in Dudley Square, South Boston, and Washington, D.C. — where diners can snack on burgers, chicken sandwiches, and various sides, including excellent tater tots and shoestring French fries.
