A Back Bay restaurant known for its popular rooftop bar shut down over the weekend. Globe Bar & Cafe (384 Boylston St., Boston) — which had relocated down the street to the former Rattlesnake Bar & Grill space in early 2018 after over a decade in its original space at 565 Boylston St. — closed Saturday, October 19, due to leasing issues, as an employee reached at the restaurant Monday morning confirmed to Eater.
Globe served classic American bar fare like beef sliders, wings, and nachos alongside some slightly fancier options like blackened lime shrimp, sesame ahi tuna, strawberry and spinach salad, and teriyaki steak wraps. The restaurant is affiliated with Lir (an Irish pub also located on Boylston Street) and McGann’s Irish Pub in Boston’s West End, and an Instagram post announcing the closure directed customers to these establishments.
Following the Globe’s move down the street in 2018, the bar gained one of the most coveted rooftop dining spots in the city, where it served an abbreviated menu of appetizers and snacks, as well as cocktails like margaritas, frozen mudslides, and frozen rosé. Stay tuned for any updates on what’s in store for the space.
