A seafood and sandwich restaurant with locations in Boston’s South End and in Salem just debuted a third edition, and just like its older siblings, this version serves massive lobster rolls. Lobstah on a Roll took over the former Wabora Asian Fusion space at 254 Newbury St. in Back Bay, where it’s now open and slinging lobster rolls, chowder, and a few new dessert items, according to chef Ken Dupree.
Lobstah on a Roll first opened in the South End in 2017, quickly making a name for itself serving ginormous lobster rolls meant to feed dozens, in addition to the more common single-serve lobster rolls, which are still piled high with lobster meat. The team previously planned to open at 478 Massachusetts Ave. in Arlington but ultimately shifted gears, instead adding a Salem location of Lobstah on a Roll (135 Lafayette St.).
The Newbury Street location carries on the enormous lobster roll tradition, also serving clam chowder, lobster bisque, salads, and some non-lobster-laden sandwiches like roasted turkey, seared tuna, and pastrami. There are also lobster tacos, fried clam sandwiches, and beer-battered fish and chips.
A new addition to Lobstah on a Roll (at Newbury Street only) appears on the dessert menu, in the form of Hawaiian-style shave ice in cantaloupe, honeydew, mango, pineapple, watermelon, and red bean flavors — a holdover from the space’s past life as Wabora.
The new restaurant operates on Newbury Street seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
