Fandom for Tatte Bakery & Cafe gains another new outlet for its affection today as the ever-growing local chain opens the first of two planned locations in downtown Boston. Tatte Summer Street (125 Summer St.) makes its formal debut on Monday, January 7, unveiling its classic white-tiled interior, precise pastries piled high behind glass, and a comfort food-filled seasonal menu.

Founder Tzurit Or ramped her cafe’s expansion into overdrive following the opening of a grand, two-story bakery in Harvard Square in 2016. Reaching into new neighborhoods over the past two years, Or now brings Tatte to the downtown area, first with the Summer Street store and with a second to follow, though an exact address has not been announced.

The new Tatte spans more than 4,000 square feet, sporting the familiar booth and communal table seating along with some high-top seating at a marble counter. In addition to its vast selection of pastries, Tatte serves a range of items, including tartines, egg sandwiches, and Jerusalem bagels, as well as salads, sandwiches, and shakshuka.

Or has maintained a partnership with Panera founder Ron Shaich over the last few years, and together they are working to grow Tatte’s reach, including with an expansion to Washington, D.C., planned for sometime this year.

Tatte Summer Street operates daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
