A fire caused heavy damage to two East Cambridge buildings Monday, displacing 19 people and shutting down several businesses. The fire impacted buildings at 6 Hunting St. and 851 Cambridge St., the latter of which is home to Sunset Cafe, which remains closed due to significant damage.
The Portuguese restaurant shared a message on social media thanking the Cambridge Fire Department and those who responded to the emergency.
“It is due to their bravery that this fire was control[led] and did not spread further,” the message read. “As of right now, the restaurant will remain closed until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to those with reservations. We appreciate all the good wishes and we hope to be up and running soon.”
Sunset Cafe will continue to provide updates on its Facebook page.
In the building next door, Kimchi Kitchen (847 Cambridge St.) also remains closed as crews work to assess damage and clean up the intersection. Kimchi Kitchen, too, posted updates on social media, indicating that management had not been permitted to access the business.
Further updates will be provided when new information becomes available. In the meantime, the city of Cambridge is accepting donations to its Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund.
