Hardly known for its late-night dining scene, Boston just made an unexpected move: The licensing board granted permission for an East Boston restaurant to offer 24-hour takeout. La Chiva (259 Bennington St.) will soon be able to dole out its menu of Colombian dishes around the clock, thanks to its amended license.
La Chiva was already operating from 5:30 a.m. until 3 a.m., but the city’s ruling will let it bridge that small early morning gap. The restaurant joins only a handful of operations that offer 24-hour service, including South Street Diner near South Station, Doughboy Donuts in South Boston, Bova’s Bakery in the North End, and an IHOP in Brighton. (There’s also a 24-hour Clover across the river in Cambridge.)
La Chiva serves a variety of Colombian dishes, including grilled steak, fish filet, buñuelos, beef and chicken kebabs, pupusas, tamales, empanadas, tacos, and picada, a dish made with assorted meats, potatoes, and plantains.
