Salem-based Jaho Coffee & Tea opens its third Boston proper location today, September 24, at 116 Huntington Ave. in Back Bay, across from the Prudential Center. A hybrid coffee shop and wine bar, it takes after Jaho’s downtown Boston location (665 Washington St.), which opened in 2015 — 10 years after Jaho’s debut in Salem — and was the first of the group to serve wine. (While Jaho later added wine, beer, and cocktails in Salem, its location in Boston’s South End, which opened at 1651 Washington St. in 2011, remains a traditional coffee shop without the wine bar component, as does a location that opened all the way out in Tokyo in 2016.)
Jaho Back Bay seats around 100 people (including outdoor patio seating) and features a range of coffee and tea beverages, sipping chocolates, and smoothies; a full bar, with wine, beer, and cocktails; and food, such as bagels, sandwiches, salads, and soft serve ice cream. While owner Anil Mezini describes it as a wine bar, don’t miss the cocktails, many of which tie into Jaho’s coffee shop origins. There’s a boozy bubble tea, for example, as well as a bourbon-infused hot cider, a Vietnamese coffee martini, and more.
The new Jaho opens at 6:30 a.m. daily, closing at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.
