KO Catering & Pies announced today that it will operate exclusively out of its East Boston location (256 Marginal St.) and will not reopen its original home in South Boston (87 A St.). The popular restaurant, known for its Australian meat pies, first opened in South Boston in 2010 before expanding to its second location in the Boston Harbor Shipyard in the middle of 2012.
The South Boston location of KO Pies closed down in late April this year for what was, at the time, “an extended break,” but now owner Sam Jackson has announced that he and his business partners have sold the building, and the restaurant is permanently closed.
“We cannot express our thanks and appreciation enough to all the incredible customers that we had over the past 8 years,” Jackson wrote in a post on Facebook. “Same for all the wonderful staff that helped make our little pie shop what it was. Southie certainly is a lot different to when we swung the doors open in 2010 and we are forever grateful for the opportunities that little shop allowed for us, including our expansion to the shipyard.”
East Boston’s KO Pies remains open (for catering, too) — and for those who can’t get over there, it offers delivery through Uber Eats. In addition to a variety of meat pies, KO serves fish and chips, a chicken schnitzel sandwich, salads, beer, and more. Plus, it’s got a patio with a view.
