A restaurant serving the food of eastern France debuts Friday, September 14, in Boston’s South End. The aptly named Bar Lyon (1750 Washington St.) takes its inspiration from the bouchons of Lyon, serving dishes like duck confit, broiled oysters, and foie gras. Bar Lyon joins the Columbus Hospitality Group, which operates eight other establishments in the area, including Mistral and Sorellina.
Bar Lyon features dishes from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. Chef and owner Jamie Mammano and executive chef Cameron Cieslak oversee the menu, which includes soft-cooked omelets, roasted chicken, poached monkfish with Maine lobster and clams, salmon tartare, and steamed mussels. There are also a few items dubbed “Lyon classiques,” including a seasoned fromage blanc called cervelle de canut, a frisée salad with smoked bacon, and a terrine Lyonnaise en croûte. On the beverage side, Bar Lyon is serving a selection of French wines, plus beer, cider, and cocktails.
The restaurant features a warm design courtesy of Donna Jordan of Jordan Interior Designs. There are wooden tabletops, plush booths, and basketweave tile flooring, in addition to a vintage chandelier. Pat Sharkey from Sharkey Design Company served as the architect on the project.
Bar Lyon is not taking reservations, operating on a walk-in only policy. With 48 seats in the dining area and 12 at the bar, the dining room opens seven days a week at 5 p.m., remaining open until 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and until 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. The bar is open from 4:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Saturday and from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Per sister restaurant Mooo’s Instagram story, Bar Lyon will debut on Friday, September 14, starting with the bar at 4:30 p.m. and the kitchen at 5 p.m.
Update 9/13, 10:30 a.m.: This story has been updated to reflect Donna Jordan as the interior designer for Bar Lyon.
