Doughnut lovers in Allston-Brighton have something to look forward to: Blackbird Doughnuts is planning to open at 100 Holton St., Brighton, by the end of 2018. Blackbird has been hinting at the new location in its Instagram story, and owner Rebecca Roth Gullo confirmed to Eater via email that a new location is in the works.
The new space will be massive — 5,600 square feet — and will include a production kitchen and a storefront. This new production kitchen won’t replace the one at the original Blackbird location on Tremont Street in the South End — Roth Gullo said that they’ll need both spaces to accommodate all of the shops (there’s another in Fenway that opened a little over a year ago.)
In addition to the forthcoming Brighton expansion, Blackbird is among a number of local restaurants opening kiosks in Harvard’s newly renovated Smith Campus Center food court. Roth Gullo didn’t provide an exact opening date for the Harvard location but believes it could be open as soon as the late summer.
The Blackbird shops serve up a mix of raised doughnuts and cake doughnuts in a range of flavors, such as raspberry lime, everything bagel, and blueberry jam, along with soft serve ice cream, doughnut ice cream sandwiches, doughnut cakes, and mini doughnuts.
Aside from its existing and future brick-and-mortar locations, Blackbird also offers a catering service and makes appearances at the SoWa Open Market.
Stay tuned for updates on Blackbird’s openings in Brighton and Harvard Square, and in the meantime, get your doughnut fill at the South End (492 Tremont St.) and Fenway (20 Kilmarnock St.) locations.
