A Japanese restaurant with several locations in the Boston area plans to add one more in Somerville’s Davis Square. Genki Ya will take over the former Diva Indian Bistro space at 246 Elm St., and its website indicates that the location is coming soon. Diva Indian Bistro closed last December after 20 years in business.

Genki Ya first opened in Brookline in 2007 and later expanded with locations in Cambridge, Boston’s Theater District, and Dedham. The restaurants focus on sushi — optionally made with brown or multi-grain rice — with a mix of maki rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and various specials.

The lengthy menu also includes entrees like beef teriyaki, chicken katsu, udon and soba noodles, and curry rice, plus salads, soups, and appetizers.

Signage is already up at the Elm Street restaurant, so Genki Ya may be ready to open in the neighborhood soon. Eater has reached out and will provide an update on the timeline when possible. In the meantime, there are a few other options for raw seafood in Davis Square, including O Ginger, Pokeworks, and Sugidama.
