Flat Black Coffee Company has closed its Ashmont location (1906 Dorchester Ave., Boston), announcing that it would be moving the operations of the Ashmont shop — which was situated inside of a branch of Eastern Bank — to its original location in Dorchester’s Lower Mills neighborhood (1170 Washington St., Boston). Flat Black also has its roasting operation in Lower Mills.

Flat Black co-founder Jennifer House told the Dorchester Reporter that aside from the lease being up, ongoing construction and competition drove the decision to shutter the Ashmont location.

The local roaster, cafe group, and wholesaler debuted in Lower Mills in 2003, featuring single-origin coffees.

Flat Black also has three locations in Downtown Boston: 50 Broad St., 255 State St., and 260 Franklin St. All three operate on weekdays only, while the Lower Mills location is also open on weekends. Plus, Flat Black distributes coffees to a few local shops, including American Provisions and the Symphony location of Whole Foods.
