Popular East Somerville taqueria Taco Loco just gained a new counterpart in Medford. Picante Taqueria (352 Boston Ave.) opened this week with taco specials, a bright bird mural gracing its interior, and a whole host of Mexican delights.

Picante Taqueria builds on the success of Taco Loco, and after taking over the former Pranzi’s pizza place, the owners are now doing what they do best: slinging tacos.

In addition to tacos, Picante Taqueria serves quesadillas, tortas, burritos, chicken tortilla soup, and more.

Situated near Tufts University, Picante Taqueria adds to the substantial Mexican food scene in the Medford/Somerville area, which also includes two locations of Tenoch and its forthcoming sibling (El Tacuba), Tu y Yo, Painted Burro, Rincón Mexicano, El Potro, and lots more, not to mention vegan taqueria Taco Party, longtime Tex-Mex spot Rudy’s Cafe, and late-night taco hangout Lone Star Taco Bar.
