A new Ethiopian restaurant opened in North Cambridge earlier this month. Sheger Cafe and Ethiopian Restaurant debuted at 2376 Massachusetts Ave., run by Misrak Gandi, who also operates the Misrak Beauty Salon in the same building as the cafe.

Sheger Cafe held a grand opening over the weekend, featuring drinks and music while celebrating the Ethiopian custom of goorsha, feeding friends and family with your hand.

Sheger serves a variety of meat- and vegetable-based dishes with Ethiopia’s traditional spongy flatbread, injera, which is made of teff flour and acts not just as food but also as a utensil and plate.

The new North Cambridge restaurant joins several other Ethiopian restaurants in Greater Boston, including Addis Red Sea in the South End, Lucy Ethiopian Cafe near Symphony Hall, Fasika in Somerville, and its new sibling in Jamaica Plain, Fasika Cafe.
