A Cambridge restaurant with food truck roots in Maine will expand its reach across the river, opening a second location in Brighton. Mainely Burgers (704 Massachusetts Ave.) will join a growing list of food and beverage vendors in the new Boston Landing development, with owners Max and Jack Barber signing on to operate within 2,000 square feet of space on the ground floor of a new building called Lantera.
“Jack and I are wicked excited for Mainely Burgers at Boston Landing,” co-owner Max Barber said in a release. “We are super stoked to share our Maine roots and recipes with Boston Landing.”
The brothers, both graduates of Babson College, launched Mainely Burgers as a food truck in Maine. Since the summer of 2012, the pair has built the business to include two burger trucks, an ice cream truck (Mainely Treats), and a Cambridge restaurant, which opened in 2016.
Mainely keeps its menu simple, with burgers, hot dogs, sides, a salad, and frappes. Customers can get beef, veggie, or chicken patties on a bun (there’s a gluten-free option, too), in lettuce, or in a bowl, topped with everything from cheese, pickles, tomatoes, and bacon to pickled onions and fried eggs. Sides include truffle fries, crispy Brussels sprouts, and fried cauliflower.
Several other food vendors are already open within Boston Landing, a development that includes residential and office space in addition to retail and dining: Flatbread Company, Kohi Coffee, and Rail Stop. Mainely Burgers will open in a different area of the complex, within the 17-story Lantera building that will include residences and retail. Boston Landing is also home to the Boston Bruins training facility and New Balance headquarters, and the Celtics training facility will open there this summer.
