Several months after a merger brought together two sister-owned restaurant groups, one of the restaurants in the catalogue has closed. Stephi’s in Southie (130 Dorchester Ave.) shut down on Sunday, June 3, according to a tipster and several social media posts, with a press release from Sidell Hospitality confirming the news this morning.

Sidell Hospitality formed in January, bringing together Kathy Sidell’s Met Restaurant Group (Met Bar & Grill, Met Back Bay, Met on Main, and Saltie Girl) with her sister Stephanie Sokolove’s Stephanie’s Restaurant Group, which included Stephanie’s on Newbury, Stephi’s on Tremont, Stephanie’s at Logan, and the now-closed South Boston restaurant. Stephi’s in Southie opened in 2013 and focused on comfort food, serving dishes like fried chicken, meatloaf, clam chowder, and pizza, plus brunch and a full bar.

“While it’s always an emotional moment leaving a neighborhood you’ve been part of, the changes that are coming to the group are both positive and needed,” Sokolove said in the release.

“The goal since we unified at the top of the year was to combine teams, solidify our flagship locations on Newbury Street in the Back Bay and bring the family of brands to new levels expanding on some new opportunities,” Sidell said. “We’re excited at what 2019/20 will bring to Boston and beyond.”

A few fans lamented the closure on social media, sharing photos of the closed front doors of the South Boston restaurant. The future of the space is unknown.

Goodnight old friend. Thanks for the memories and the friendships. #lastcall #local
