A new pizzeria is set to open this July in Egleston Square near the Dorchester and Roxbury line. Mario’s Pizzeria (197 Humboldt Ave., Boston) will sling New York-style pies for take-out and delivery only. Pizzaiolo and co-owner Mario Bailote spent the better part of two decades managing and making pizza at Same Old Place in Jamaica Plain before deciding to strike out on his own.
Rebecca Greening — Bailote’s partner in business and in life — told Eater Mario’s Pizzeria will also dabble in foods from Bailote’s native Portugal, like the popular bifana sandwich, cod cakes, shrimp cakes, and sardine pâté flatbreads.
“We’re going to test the waters a bit and see what people are interested in,” said Greening. “We’ll introduce some variations but will remain mostly focused on traditional pizza shop offerings.”
Greening said they’re excited to bring a pizzeria to a neighborhood that’s lacking in diversity of choice.
“The response from the neighborhood has been very positive,” she said, noting that people who’ve been living in the area for two decades have told her they’ve been waiting a long time for a pizzeria.
Mario’s Pizzeria doesn’t have a firm opening date but is targeting sometime in July. Greening said they’re still waiting on both fire and health inspections. Keep an eye on the restaurant’s Instagram for more information.
