What started about a decade ago as a small bakery operation has grown into a veritable empire of pristine pastries, sumptuous shakshuka, and baked goods piled high. Tatte Bakery & Cafe now operates eight locations around Boston, Cambridge, and Brookline, and with a ninth already on the way to Seaport, founder Tzurit Or is now planning to make it an even 10 with a new one smack dab in the middle of Northeastern University’s campus (360 Huntington Ave.)
Tatte’s boom over the last two years included a new two-level bakery in Harvard Square, as well as locations in Fenway and Back Bay. The rapid expansion resulted in part from a partnership between Or and former Panera CEO Ron Shaich. Panera acquired just over a 50 percent stake in the bakery in 2016, and Shaich later purchased the company’s shares to continue his work with Or to expand the bakery.
Or shared the news about Northeastern’s forthcoming Tatte location on Instagram, indicating that the bakery would open in September, timing nicely with the start of a new school year.
Tatte has gained a massive following thanks, in part, to its all-day brunch service on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. In addition to shakshuka, tartines, and breakfast sandwiches, Tatte also serves fruit tarts, croissants, muffins, soups, breads, and so much more. There are seasonal items as well, plus coffee, teas, and juices.
Stay tuned for further details on Tatte’s openings in Seaport and Northeastern.
