No One Seems to Be Sure What Will Become of Bianchi’s Pizza

Condos may or may not be replacing the Revere Beach institution

What will become of Revere’s iconic Bianchi’s, one of the best pizzerias in the Boston area, with a new development in the works at its current location? The Revere city council has approved a special permit for the development of a 145-unit apartment complex at 320-327 Revere Beach Blvd., according to a story from the Revere Journal published earlier this month. The development will include 79 studio and one-bedroom units, as well as 66 two-bedroom units.

The three existing buildings at those addresses are to be demolished, notes Boston Restaurant Talk, and one of those buildings is home to the beachside joint that’s been slinging ‘za since the 1950s.

According to the proposal, the building will be zoned for mixed use, and there is expected to be retail and restaurant space on the ground floor — but no one seems to know whether or not Bianchi’s will have a home in one of those spaces. (There is some speculation in the comments of the Journal article that suggest Bianchi’s won’t be shuttering, but there is not any official information confirming this at the moment.)

Eater has repeatedly tried to contact Bobby Bianchi — the pizzeria’s owner — without success. This story will be updated when more information becomes available. In the meantime, bring some cash, grab some slices, and go eat pizza on Revere Beach.

Update, 5/7/18: Bianchi’s will reportedly remain open until around Labor Day 2018, when construction will begin, and owner Bianchi is in talks with the developers to reopen in the planned retail space on the development’s ground floor. Meanwhile, he’s not sure if he’ll try to open somewhere else temporarily during construction.
