India Palace, a longstanding Somerville restaurant specializing in North Indian and Punjabi cuisine, transformed into a South Indian restaurant this month, joining a family of restaurants across the country. Now open as Godavari Mini (23 Union Sq., Somerville), the restaurant serves dozens of biryani, dosa, and tandoori dishes, and there’s also a small selection of Chinese-inspired noodle and fried rice dishes.

With a wide selection of both vegetarian and meat entrees, Godavari Mini also serves a daily lunch buffet and provides catering services. Dishes include samosas, chicken lollipops, aloo gobi (potato with cauliflower), chicken vindaloo, shrimp curry, paneer biryani, chapathi and other breads, and lassi yogurt beverages.

Godavari has two other locations nearby — in Woburn and Framingham — and it operates more than 20 restaurants across the country, in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Texas, California, and beyond.

The new Somerville restaurant is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Dinner hours run from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
